Show sources, demand, and losses

In this fictional annual example, 600 GWh from solar and 400 GWh from wind enter a grid. Outputs are 450 GWh to homes, 250 GWh to industry and 300 GWh of transmission losses. The 1,000 GWh input equals the 1,000 GWh shown leaving the grid. Choose a reporting boundary that makes those measured inputs and outputs comparable.

Check the reporting boundary

Use one reporting period and one unit throughout. This fictional annual sample delivers 700 of 1,000 GWh to homes and industry: 70% delivered and 30% losses. These shares describe this sample only, not typical grid performance. Distinguish primary sources from intermediate transformations, and do not add the grid total as another energy input.

Adapt the template

Paste these rows in the format Source -> Target: value, check the totals and labels, then export the finished diagram as SVG or PNG. The values are illustrative and are not an energy report:

Solar -> Grid: 600
Wind -> Grid: 400
Grid -> Homes: 450
Grid -> Industry: 250
Grid -> Transmission losses: 300
